Based on the movie Cowboys and Aliens starring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig.1875, New Mexico Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breath-taking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveller Ella, he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents - townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors - all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Fred Berman. 'Terrahawks, stay on this channel....' Back for more, after 2015's popular release, is Terrahawks, the fondly remembered action-adventure comedy originally brought to you by the men who created Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Dick Spanner. In the not too distant future, the Earth finds itself under constant threat from Zelda, a blood-thirsty android who, along with her fiendish family and monstrous creations, has established a base on Mars. The only thing standing between this evil queen and her quest for the ultimate annihilation of mankind are the Terrahawks - an intrepid band of heroes led by the stern but fair clone, Doctor Tiger Ninestein. In this new series, the Terrahawks defence grows all the more desperate when a terrifying new enemy joins the androids on Mars. This new villain has a sinister connection to Queen Zelda; and together with an army of new monsters, the Earth doesn't stand a chance! 1. 'Sale of the Galaxy' by Andrew T Smith and Jamie Anderson. Guest starring Nicholas Parsons. Ninestein and Zelda both receive invitations to appear on a gruesome gameshow - The Sale of the Galaxy. But will grim gameshow host Nickel-Plate Starsons' personal history with Zelda influence the outcome of the game? 2. 'The Trouble with Toy Boys' by Chris Dale. A pernicious puppet - one half of a famous ventriloquist act - is on the loose, but even the Terrahawks can't keep a bad dummy down as Timmy the Toy Boy takes his final act to Hawknest! 3. 'Return to Sender' by Chris Dale. The return of a missing NASA probe and an encounter with an old flame of Ninestein's means a case of fatal attraction for the Terrahawks. 4. 'Renta-Hawks' by Andrew T. Smith. There's something fishy about a gang of slick would-be heroes. 5. 'Chain of Command' by Geraldine Donaldson. With Zelda missing, the government's focus is firmly on the Terrahawks, and Ninestein is unde 1. Language: English. Ontario Boys

This book explores the preoccupation with boyhood in Ontario during the immediate post-war period, 1945-1960. It argues that a traditional version of boyhood was being rejuvenated in response to a population fraught with uncertainty, and suffering from insecurity, instability, and gender anxiety brought on by depression-era and wartime disruptions in marital, familial, and labour relations, as well as mass migration, rapid post-war economic changes, the emergence of the Cold War, and the looming threat of atomic annihilation. In this socio-political and cultural context, concerned adults began to cast the fate of the post-war world onto children, in particular boys. In the decade and a half immediately following World War II, the version of boyhood that became the ideal was one that stressed selflessness, togetherness, honesty, fearlessness, frank determination, and emotional toughness. It was thought that investing boys with this version of masculinity was essential if they were to grow into the kind of citizens capable of governing, protecting, and defending the nation, and, of course, maintaining and regulating the social order. Drawing on a wide variety of sources, Ontario Boys demonstrates that, although girls were expected and encouraged to internalise a special kind of citizenship, as caregivers and educators of children and nurturers of men, the gendered content and language employed indicated that active public citizenship and democracy was intended for boys. An appropriate boyhood in the post-war period became, if nothing else, a metaphor for the survival of the nation.

In this hugely acclaimed author's new novel, history comes alive before us when, in the seventeenth century, a Jesuit missionary ventures into the wilderness in search of converts-the defining moment of first contact between radically different worlds, each at once old and new in its own ways. What unfolds over the next few years is truly epic, constantly illuminating and surprising, sometimes comic, always entrancing, and ultimately all-too-human in its tragic grandeur. Christophe, as educated as any Frenchman could be about the 'sauvages' of the New World whose souls he has sworn to save, begins his true enlightenment shortly after he sets out when his native guides-terrified by even a scent of the Iroquois-abandon him to save themselves. But a Huron warrior and elder named Bird soon takes him prisoner, along with a young Iroquois girl, Snow Falls, whose family he has just killed. The Huron-Iroquois rivalry, now growing vicious, courses through this novel, and these three are its principal characters. Christophe and Snow Falls are held captive in Bird's massive village. Champlain's Iron People have only lately begun trading with the Huron, who mistrust them as well as this Jesuit Crow who has now trespassed onto their land; and Snow Falls's people, of course, have become the Hurons' greatest enemy. Bird knows that to get rid of them both would resolve the issue, but he sees Christophe, however puzzling, as a potential envoy to those in New France, and Snow Falls as a replacement for the two daughters he'd lost to the Iroquois. These relationships wax and wane as life comes at them relentlessly: a lacrosse match with an allied tribe, a dangerous mission to trade furs with the French for the deadly shining wood that could save the Huron nation, shocking victories in combat and devastating defeats, then a sickness the likes of which none of them has ever seen. The world of The Orenda blossoms to include such unforgettable characters as Bird's oldest friend, Fox; his lover, Gosling, who some believe possesses magical powers; two more Jesuit Crows who arrive to help form a mission; and boys from both tribes whose hearts veer wildly from one side to the other, for one reason or another. Watching over all of them are the spirits that guide their every move. The Orenda traces a story of blood and hope, suspicion and trust, hatred and love, that comes to a head when Jesuit and Huron join together against the stupendous wrath of the Iroquois, when everything that any of them has ever known or believed in faces nothing less than annihilation. A saga nearly four hundred years old, it is also timeless and eternal. This eBook edition includes a Reading Group Guide.
